The E111 Card Versus Travel Insurance
We are fortunate that we have a public hospital only a mile away and should you become ill, or have a minor accident, then by producing your E111 card at this hospital, you will get treatment for free, with the deal done with Spain and the UK. However this may not include medication, especially if you are given a prescription to got to the chemist, like we do here at home. but even with this convenience, you may not always be near the hospital and there is not guarantee that if you have an accident, it will be this hospital you are taken for treatment.
Travel Insurance
It is highly recommended that you always have travel insurance when you visit our holiday rental or Spain as a whole. Yes there is some free medical care, which is paid for by the Brutish government, but it does have limitations. It will not cover for example any travel costs back to the UK, should you miss your flights, due to an illness or accident. It will not cover loss of personal posessions, and may not cover long term treatment, if you are unable to return home within a short period of time.
Other considerations such as your flight being cancelled, or severely delayed, will only be covered with travel insurance. Something as simple as getting an ear infection can stop you flying home, this would incur you to pay for a new flight and extended accommodation costs. There may not just be you to consider, your children may also have to stay with you or other family members. In short, traveling without travel insurance can be a financial disaster should anything occur.
