Places To See On The Costa Blanca

The costa blanca covers a large area and probably beyond what many would prefer to drive on a relaxing holiday. So below is just a few suggestions based on our own experience and easy to get to from our holiday rental home on La Cinuelica.

Torrevieja

Torrevieja is not really a holiday resort but should not be dismissed as if there is nothing there to see. Within the harbour area, there is a decommissioned submarine and cost guard boat you can board. The long promenade has a nice walk too, especially in a Sunday, when many local Spanish come out on there way to or back from church.

Next to the marina is a fair ground during the summer months and you read the local papers and look out for the many festivals the Spanish have every year. If there is one, chances are there will be a parade through Torrevieja.

Cartagena

If you like a bit of history then Catagena may be right for you. It is about a 45 minute drive form our holiday rental and has it own roman theatre and historical and archaeology museums. There is a refuge museum for the Spanish civil war and renovated habour.

Museums in Cartagena

  • National Maritime Archaeology Museum
  • Municipal Archaeological Museum
  • Naval Museum
  • Military Museum
  • Carmen Conde-Antonio Oliver Museum

Alicante

It is surprising how many people fly into Alicante airport each year but do not take the time to visit Alicante. They have a wonderful harbour area, with restaurants and cafes. Overlooking all this is Alicante castle, which in itself is worth the visit.

Guadalest

This is well worth the drive and consists of avliagge and church high in the Marina Baixa district west of Benidorm. It is about a 2 hour drive, from torrevieja, mainly on big roads. It is one of the most visited places on the Costa Blanca and very popular for bus trips from benidorm.

Mar Menor

The mar menor is a salt water lagoon, the most northern part is just 25 minutes drive away at San Pedro. Driving around the lagoon and you will see many holiday villages, which are quiet out of season and very busy i season. Following this area right around and you will come to the famous mar menor area, including its famous golf courses. You nay find yourself bumping into a famous footballer or two within this area.

Embassament De La Pedrera

We have not found this on any tourist book. A 25 minute drive inland and you will come to the most distant part of Embassament De la Pedera a beautiful looking lake that is also used for hydro electricity. If you are brave there are some rough roads that can take you car right down to the lakes edge

Driving Around Costa Blanca

There are certain areas around the Costa Blanca that can get busy with traffic at certain times of the year, but generally is easier than the Costa Del Sol. Take you time to get the right car hire with the appropriate car insurance, as many policies do not cover as much as you think and tend to be cheap until you have an accident, your fault or otherwise and then excess payments come into play. Find out what breakdown cover protection comes with the car. If you only traveling local, then the car hire firm themselves may just attend. but if you intend to some long distances, then ensure you have national breakdown cover service provider included with your rental.
